ABOUT

Located on the fertile slopes of Mount Kenya at 1,600–1,700 meters above sea level, Gakuyuini Factory is just 1.5 hours from Nairobi—highlighting how close Kenya’s coffee farms are to urban centers. The factory’s membership includes 674 female and 879 male farmers, all committed to producing exceptional coffee.

Processing begins with hand-sorting ripe cherries, followed by pulping to remove skin and pulp. Beans are graded by density, with higher grades (1 and 2) undergoing separate fermentation for 16–24 hours under shade. After fermentation, beans are washed, re-graded, and soaked in clean stream water for 16–18 hours.

Drying takes place on raised African beds for up to 21 days, with protective covers used during midday and at night. These careful methods allow Gakuyuini to consistently deliver coffees that showcase the region’s rich terroir and farmer dedication.
