The Ruera Estate Natural lot comes from Ruera Estate located in Kiambu County, Juja Sub County, approximately 15 km from Ruiru town along Kiganjo Road. The estate spans 190 hectares at 1,577 m.a.s.l., with red volcanic soils and a gently sloping landscape. The area receives two rainy seasons (March–May and October–December), and irrigation is used during dry periods. Ruera Estate is key in the region, offering employment to over 1,000 Kenyans in rural coffee production.
This lot is processed as a Natural. Cherries are hand‑harvested at full ripeness, then carefully sorted to remove any damaged or defective cherries. A floatation process further separates overripe, underripe, or diseased cherries from the dense, ripe fruit. The selected cherries are then spread in a thin layer on outdoor drying beds. To achieve a controlled fermentation, the cherries are wrapped airtight in tarps on the drying beds for three days of semi‑anaerobic fermentation. After this step, they are sun‑dried for approximately four weeks, with the thin layer ensuring uniform drying.
